A World History of Art

This book was the recommended course reading for History of Art module and I have embraced it as a sound, balanced reference book. It gives plenty of exciting colour images and it sets Art History within the context of what else was going on in the world between Religion, Society, Technology and the Economy to enable a better insight into the reasons for the influences of artistic movements.

KEY LEARNING POINTS

Art doesn’t just happen on its own, it reacts to events.

The role of the artist in society is pretty significant, yet the vast majority are undervalued in terms of esteem and reward.

Art is constantly evolving and control moves between the establishment, the artist, and society.

I feel inspiration from many different artistic movements throughout the centuries from the Renaissance to Contemporary artists, but the movements that I identify most with all have representation as a solid foundation at their core.
