Christian Hook rocketed into the art-world after he won the Sky Portrait Artist of the Year award in 2014 with his unique fractured style of portraiture. I admire his work and in this book he talks about his process of painting an object, then painting over it again, and in that exact moment of destruction, he starts to see exciting new possibilities emerging from the work, he is also aware of the concept of painting through time by capturing slight changes in the sitter.
KEY LEARNING FOR ME
Representational art can still be highly conceptual and expressive – see portrait of boxer Amir Khan by Christian Hook.

I am excited by this concept in the way that drawing is used with painting, I would like to emulate some of this in my own artistic process.
